Fat City Clay

Joe Staskal has sold ceramics at the Tulsa Farmers Market since 1999. He provides themed work for Buck Atoms Cosmic Curios on Route 66 in Tulsa, for the Outsiders House Museum, and on instagram at FatCityClay. Among his more popular sales items are a selection of easy drinking, moderately priced mugs inspired by the confluence of pop culture, social media and fine craft.

Joe started making pottery at Coe College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, in 1976, under Art Morrison. He continued working with clay while attending the University of Tulsa Law School in the late 1970’s. At TU, he studied production techniques under Tom Manhart. “As a production potter, Tom taught me to work through a creative series, a practice which I maintain to this day,” he says. Later, Joe continued taking ceramic design classes as a continuing education student with Whitney Forsyth until the early 2000’s.

Joe enjoys his weekly trips to the farmers market, and is thankful to customers who come there to view and purchase his work.
